R.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar), and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, and gained early attention due to Buck’s ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe’s unclear vocals.
Man on the Moon
The song makes numerous references to the performer Andy Kaufman, including his Elvis impersonation and work with wrestlers Fred Blassie and Jerry Lawler.
Mott the Hoople and the game of life
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeahMonopoly, twenty one, checkers, and chess
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeahLet’s play twister, let’s play risk

Tell me, are you locked in the punch?
Andy are you goofing on Elvis?
Hey, baby are we losing touch? If you believed they put a man on the moon
Man on the moon
If you believed there’s nothing up his sleeve
Then nothing is coolMoses went walking with the staff of wood

I’m sorry that after compalining that I haven’t commented over all this time.
I really appreciate you’re posting songs I haven’t heard in a LONG time…and you’re follow up songs remind me of why I always bought albums, the catchy song you bought it for maybe isn’t the best song on the record.
Your background on the groups and songs are great. You must have had a great time growing up, you’re old like me, but still growing up.
You take care Deej, and I’ll post more often. (I fought with that damn posting gate you originally set up for a while and gave up)
