Stealers Wheel is a Scottish folk rock/rock band formed in Paisley, Renfrewshire in 1972 by former school friends Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty. Egan and Rafferty were school friends from the age of 9. The band broke up in 1975 and were re-formed in 2008. Neither Egan nor Rafferty are involved with the new version of the band.
In the early 1970s, the band was considered to be the British version of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, and after two unsuccessful singles, they came to worldwide fame with their hit, “Stuck in the Middle With You”.
Star was released as a single in 1974, just before the band officially broke up. It became a hit, but the band no longer played concerts or promoted the song, so it was a minor hit. It didn’t appear on an album until 2003, when The Best of Stealers Wheel was released.
In 2007, Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty got together for a television show and this was the song they chose to perform:
So they made you a star, now your head’s in a cloud
Now you’re walking down the street with your feet off the ground
They read in the press all about your success
They believe every word they’ve been told
After all you’ve been through tell me what will you do
When you find yourself out in the cold? (ah tell me, ah tell me)When you appear on the stage there’s a standing ovation
You really live out your performance, you’re the biggest sensation
You breeze through the door and when you take a floor
You expect to have it all to yourself
After all you’ve been through tell me what will you do
When you find yourself back on the shelf? (ah tell me, ah tell me)You breeze through the door and when you take a floor
You expect to have it all to yourself
After all you’ve been through tell me what will you do
When you find yourself back on the shelf? (ah tell me, ah tell me)

I have gotten a few requests from people who want to donate money to keep this site up and running. While it feels really strange for me to accept money for what is essentially a hobby for me, I guess I could always accept help in paying for the ever-increasing hosting costs.
So if you like what you see here, feel free to add to my "tip jar".
