Fire on High – Electric Light Orchestra

eloElectric Light Orchestra, commonly abbreviated ELO, were a symphonic rock group from Birmingham, England, who released eleven studio albums between 1971 and 1986 and another album in 2001. ELO were formed to accommodate Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne’s desire to create modern pop songs with heavily classical overtones, but falling under a light rock category. However, the band’s direction for most of their existence was set by Lynne who, after the band’s debut record, wrote and arranged all of the group’s original compositions and produced every album.

Fire on High

The album version contains an opening with a backward message. When the song is played backwards, the message, in a masked heavy voice, can be heard stating, “The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back.” – ostensibly Jeff Lynne’s shot at backmasking hysteria, after satanic allegations were made against their song “Eldorado” by Fundamentalist Christianity members.[1] Snippets of “Messiah” by Handel can be heard as well.

About DJ Allyn

DJ Allyn is a burned out radio guy who went on to become a burned out sound engineer for a few Seattle area grunge bands in the 1980s and 1990s. Left the madness of worldwide tours with bands, cleaned up my act and went into the relative sanity of sound engineering for television series. Currently working as the Director of Sound for a television series being filmed in North Vancouver, British Columbia. I am always on the lookout for interesting videos, old music, and fun.
