Chalk Outline ~ Three Days Grace

three-days-graceOriginally known as Groundswell when they were in their teens, they were a five-piece band that started in 1992, transforming into the trio known as Three Days Grace in 1997.

From Norwood, Ontario, Canada, many of their songs were inspired by living in a place where the population was around 1500 people. The band members were still in high school when they had their first gig, and they performed anywhere that would accept them — including opening for a movie.

The trio eventually relocated to Toronto, where they were introduced to Gavin Brown, a producer, by their old manager. They played a private set for him and by the time it was over, they were signed onto a contract.

All of them are recovering addicts, and many of their songs have a dual meaning.

Chalk Ouline

Chalk Outline” is the title of a song recorded by Canadian group Three Days Grace. It was released in August 2012 as the lead single from their fourth album, Transit of Venus. The band released many “snippets” of the song before August 14 to tease fans.

I’ve been cursed
I’ve been crossed
I’ve been beaten by the ones
That get me off

I’ve been cut
I’ve been opened up
I’ve been shattered by the ones I thought I loved

You left me here
Like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk
Waiting for the rain to wash away
Wash away

You keep coming back
To the scene of the crime
But the dead can’t speak
And there’s nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind
Is a chalk outline
[Lyrics copied from http://djallyn.org]
I’ve been cold
In the crypt
But not as cold as the words across your lips
You’ll be sorry baby
Someday
When you reach across the bed
Where my body used to lay

You left me here
Like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk
Waiting for the rain to wash away
Wash away

You keep coming back
To the scene of the crime
But the dead can’t speak
And there’s nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind
Is a chalk outline

All you left behind
Is a chalk outline

(Solo)

(All you left behind)
You left me here
Like a chalk outline
On the sidewalk
Waiting for the rain to wash away
Wash away

You keep coming back
To the scene of the crime
But the dead can’t speak
And there’s nothing left to say anyway
All you left behind
Is a chalk outline
