Originally known as Groundswell when they were in their teens, they were a five-piece band that started in 1992, transfoming into the trio known as Three Days Grace in 1997.
From Norwood, Ontario, Canada, many of their songs were inspired by living in a place where the population was around 1500 people. The bandmembers were still in high school when they had their first gig, and they performed anywhere that would accept them — including opening for a movie.
The trio eventually relocated to Toronto, where they were introduced to Gavin Brown, a producer, by their old manager. They played a private set for him and by the time it was over, they were signed onto a contract.
All of them are recovering addicts, and many of their songs have a dual meaning.
Pain, without love
Pain, I can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing at allYou’re sick of feeling numb
You’re not the only one
I’ll take you by the hand
And I’ll show you a world that you can understand
This life is filled with hurt
When happiness doesn’t work
Trust me and take my hand
When the lights go out you will understandPain, without love
Pain, I can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing at allAnger and agony
Are better than misery
Trust me I’ve got a plan
When the lights go off you will understandPain, without love
Pain, I can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing
Rather feel painI know (I know I know I know I know)
That you’re wounded
You know (You know you know you know you know)
That I’m here to save you
You know (You know you know you know you know)
I’m always here for you
I know (I know I know I know I know)
That you’ll thank me laterPain, without love
Pain, can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love
Pain, I can’t get enough
Pain, I like it rough
‘Cause I’d rather feel pain than nothing at all
Pain, without love

The Bloodhound Gang is an American alternative rock band from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Their songs typically have humorous and off-beat, often satirical lyrics.
Starting out in 1992 as Bang Chamber 8, The Bloodhound gang consisted of Jimmy Pop and Daddy Long Legs. They changed their name referring to a segment on the 1980s kid show, 3-2-1 Contact which featured three young detectives solving mysteries and fighting crime.
Ha-Ha! Well now, we call this the act of mating
But there are several other very important differences
Between human beings and animals that you should know aboutI’d appreciate your input
Sweat baby sweat baby sex is a Texas drought

So show me yours I’ll show you mine “Tool Time” you’ll Lovett just like Lyle
And then we’ll do it doggy style so we can both watch “X-Files”Do it now
You and me baby ain’t nothin’ but mammals
So let’s do it like they do on the Discovery Channel

Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Jesus
`Cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in townLevon, Levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spend his days counting
In a garage by the motorwayHe was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
And the war’s begun
Alvin Tostig has a son todayAnd he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be LevonLevon sells cartoon balloons in town
His family business thrives
Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them flyAnd Jesus, he wants to go to Venus
Leaving Levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing
While Levon, Levon slowly dies
Born Harry Nilsson in 1941, he recorded under several different names, but never using the name Harry. In 1964 he recorded Baa Baa Blacksheep and Do You Wanna (Have Some Fun) as Bo Pete. He also recored Donna I Understand as Johnny Niles. In 1972 he recorded Joy as Buck Earle.
Most of his recordings though, he was known simply as Nilsson.
Nilsson was best known for his hits, “Lime in the Coconut”, ”Without You”, ”Everybody’s Talkin’” and for composing such hits as Three Dog Night’s “One”.
Later in life he did a lot of commission work for movies, and in 1985 set up a production company to oversee various movie, TV and multimedia projects. In 1990, the company, Hawkeye, produced only one movie before going broke, and Nilsson found himself in some serious financial trouble after it was discovered that his financial advisor had embezzled all of the money he had ever made as a recording artist.
Nilsson’s family wound up with a net worth of $300 and the stress was enough that he suffered a heart attack in 1993 and died of a massive heart attack a few months later.
The third single from his 1971 album, Nilsson Schmilsson it features three distinct characters (the narrator, the sister, and the doctor) all sung in different voices by Nilsson.

His sister had another one, she paid it for a lime.
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank them both up
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank them both up
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank them both up
She put the lime in the coconut, she called the doctor, woke him up,
And said, “Doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take,
I say, Doctor, to relieve this belly ache?
I say, Doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take,
I say, Doctor, to relieve this belly ache?”
“Now let me get this straight “,

Put the lime in the coconut, you called your doctor, woke him up,

I say, Doctor, to relieve this belly ache?
I say, Doctor, doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take,
I say, Doctor, dooooctor, to relieve this belly ache?’
Put the lime in the coconut, drink them both together,

Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the morning

The White Stripes were formed in a Detroit, Michigan suburb in 1997. They consist of two band members, Jack White and Meg White.
For a long time, they billed themselves as a brother and sister act, but he reality is, they were married for a short period of time and are now divorced.
John (Jack) Gillis and Megan (Meg) White got married in 1996, and Jack took Meg’s last name. They divorced in 2000, but still use the siblings charade.
Seven Nation Army is the first track on the album Elephant. It was released as a single in 2003, and won a Grammy for Best Rock Song and is known for its underlying riff, which plays throughout most of the song. Although it sounds like a bass guitar (an instrument the group had famously never previously used), the sound is actually created by running Jack White’s semi-acoustic guitar (a 1950s style Kay Hollowbody) through a whammy pedal set down an octave. The riff was composed at a sound check before a show at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, Australia.
http://djallyn.org/media/White_Stripes-SevenNationArmy.flvI’m gonna fight ‘em all
A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back
They’re gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my backAnd I’m talking to myself at night
Because I can’t forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it aloneDon’t want to hear about it
Every single one’s got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hellAnd if I catch it coming back my way
I’m gonna serve it to you
And that aint what you want to hear
But thats what I’ll do
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says find a homeI’m going to Wichita
Far from this opera for evermore
I’m gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I’m bleeding, and I’m bleeding, and I’m bleeding
Right before the lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will sing no more
And the stains coming from my blood
Tell me go back home
Originally named Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were formed by Fairfax High School alumni Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Jack Irons, and Michael “Flea” Balzary following what was supposed to be a one time performance in 1983. As Slovak was already committed to another group, What Is This?, the foursome never intended to become part of the Los Angeles punk scene. Their first performance was at the Rhythm Lounge, to a crowd of roughly 30 people. One song had been created for the occasion, which involved the band improvising music while Kiedis rapped a poem he had written called “Out in L.A.”. The performance was so lively the band were asked to return the following week. Due to this unexpected success, the members changed the band’s name to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, playing several more shows at various LA clubs and musical venues.
This was their second hit off of their 1991 breakout album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
It almost never became a song in the first place, because the lyrics and nature of the song made Anthony Kiedis reluctant to show it to producer Rick Rubin and also to record it. The song is about Anthony’s addiction to heroin, and about how he used to shoot up under the downtown bridge. It is also how he has been able to fight that addiction.
Ruben thought the song was beautiful and talked a reluctant Kiedis into sharing it with the band. After singing it to guitarist John Frusciante and bassist Flea, Kiedis recalls that they “got up and walked over to their instruments and started finding the beat and guitar chords to match it.”
http://djallyn.org/media/RedHotChiliPeppers-UnderTheBridge.flvSometimes I feel
Like I don’t have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cryI drive on her streets
‘Cause she’s my companion
I walk through her hills
And she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lieI don’t ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don’t ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the wayIt’s hard to believe
That there’s nobody out there
It’s hard to believe
That I’m all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cryI don’t ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way
I don’t ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the wayUnder the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away
Linkin Park was formed in 1996 by three high school friends from Agoura Hills, California. Their first album, Hybrid Theory was released in October 2000 and contained In the End, One Step Closer, and Crawling.
They get their sound from intertwined “Nu Metal” and “Rap Rock”, with influences and elements from hip-hop, alternative rock, and electronica, which gives them somewhat of a cross-over popularity.
It was released as a single in 2001. It was originally written as a poem by the lead vocalist, Chester Bennington, with Chris Petersen, and was later established as a sufficient song for the album. The original demo version of this song was labeled “Untitled” (which may or may not have been an actual title) and contained various different rap verses by Shinoda.
“In the End” is their highest charting single in most countries. It is widely regarded as their most famous song, and the one which best describes their musical style (a melodic interplay between Chester Bennington’s singing/yelling and Mike Shinoda’s rapping).
This song is mainly based on one person’s failure. It is considered symbolic of an ending relationship.

One thing I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time[All I know]
time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away[It's so unreal]
Didn’t look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on but didn’t even know
Wasted it all just to[Watch you go]
I kept everything inside and even though I tried it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time whenI tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matterOne thing I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how[I tried so hard]
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised[it got so far]
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me[In the end]
You kept everything inside and even though I tried it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time whenI tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matterI’ve put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should knowI’ve put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should knowI tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
Nickelback hails from Alberta, Canada, and is one of the most renowned groups of the “post-grunge” genre. They are on par with bands such as Black Stone Cherry and 3 Doors Down.
The band’s name originates from the nickel in change that band member Mike Kroeger often had to give customers in his previous job at Starbucks, and would frequently say “Here’s your nickel back”.
I’m through with standin’ in line
To clubs I’ll never get in
It’s like the bottom of the ninth
And I’m never gonna win
This life hasn’t turned out
Quite the way I want it to be
[Tell me what you want]I want a brand new house
On an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king size tub big enough
For ten plus me
[Yeah, so tell what you need]I’ll need a.. a credit card that’s got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet
[Been there done that]I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher and
James Dean is fine for me
[So how you gonna do it?]I’m gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I’d even cut my hair and change my name‘Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
We’ll all stay skinny ’cause we just won’t eat
And we’ll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger’s
Gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny
With her bleach blonde hair
And well…Hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstar
Hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstarI wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight body guards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free
[I'll have the quesadilla, ha ha]I’m gonna dress my ass
With the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy mansion
Gonna date a centerfold that loves to
Blow my money for me
[So how you gonna do it?]I’m gonna trade this life
For fortune and fame
I’d even cut my hair
And change my name‘Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars and

With her bleach blonde hair
And we’ll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary of
Today’s who’s who
They’ll get you anything
with that evil smile
Everybody’s got a
Drug dealer on speed dial, well
Hey, hey, I wanna be a rockstarI’m gonna sing those songs
That offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills
From a Pez dispenserGet washed-up singers writing all my songs
Lip synch ‘em every night so I don’t get ‘em wrongWell we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars

I have gotten a few requests from people who want to donate money to keep this site up and running. While it feels really strange for me to accept money for what is essentially a hobby for me, I guess I could always accept help in paying for the ever-increasing hosting costs.
So if you like what you see here, feel free to add to my "tip jar".
